Excel Templates - Chart resizes even when fixed format ( Problem descriptions plus suggested resolution)
Something funky I discovered when exporting and populating a chart in Excel and how I resolved it. Not certain if this is a bug or just and Excel feature.
I am a big user of Excel templates particularly to export charts. I do this for two reasons, 1. The Chart Export element only exports an image and 2. I like to export the data with the chart not just the image. However, I have just discovered a minor problem when populating a title within a chart using hyperlinks.
I create a weekly report that exports the data to an Excel template, this populates 5 sheets, 4 contain the data for the chart, the 5th has the chart. The first 3 cells of the 5th sheet contain the values for the chart title with hyperlinks in the title to these cells with the yyy(current year) -(dash) Week ww(week number) I.E. "2022 - Week 4" . The chart has a fixed formatted size. When I run the report I copy the chart to PowerPoint.
However, I discovered that the chart in the exported spreadsheet is being resized even though the template has "Lock aspect ratio", "Don't move or size with the cells" and "Locked" all checked in the Format Chart Area. When the data is populating the first 3 cells it resizes the chart no matter what.
I have resolved this by moving the data to cells C, D, E, instead of A, B, C, since the data populating cell B is what was resizing my chart which starts at B2. Now the chart retains the required formatting and is not resized by the data.
